What is this blog?

This is actually my first post. Well, in reality it’s my third post; I got my feet wet on 2 posts prior to this. However, this seems to be a good place to begin and most projects begin with the “materials” phase so here we go. I’m not 100% sure what this blog is about yet and not even sure how often I will have time to post. I’m not even sure what happens next; do people comment and start a dialog? Is this going to end up lost in some dark corner of the internet? I’m basically writing to myself aren’t I?

I can say that my intent is to document some of the fascinating and compelling tidbits that I come across in life as a designer. Including some “lessons learned” as somehow I seem to keep on learning after 23 years, I’m talking about lessons mostly learned the hard way by trial and error. I should know it all by now but somehow I don’t.

I am particularly excited about documenting some insights into the process that one undergoes to conceptualize and implement a design. My clients and I often have discussions about “the process” and how a design is really something that develops over time and through exploration. So many times have we said things like “it’s amazing how we got here in the end” or “things happen for a reason”; referring to the intricate, unpredictable and sometimes lengthy process of creating an environment.
